Nathan Castle is an Australian mixed-media pop artist creating out of Geelong, Victoria. He is a Psychologist in his main life. He steps into the studio under a different moniker: SideQuest.

SideQuest’s artwork looks at what we consumed as children and how that evolves, but ultimately stays the same, as we evolve to adulthood. Using a combination of aerosol spray paint, heavy body acrylics, and physical packaging from everyday products we mindlessly consume, these pieces are layered with meaning. His work asks the viewer to look beneath the bright neon surface. SideQuest intentionally aligns the nostalgic cartoon characters from our past—the heroes and villains that shaped our childhoods—with the commercial brands and modern products that dictate our identities today. It’s a playful look at how our innocent memories have been repackaged and sold back to us.

Beyond the canvas, Nathan’s life is deeply rooted in human connection and advocacy. As a practicing psychologist, he works both statewide children’s services and adult mental health services across the Geelong region. He knows firsthand how crucial a creative outlet is for mental well-being. Just as pop art serves as his personal "side quest", his art aims to do the same for others—sparking joy, triggering core memories, and fostering a sense of bright, accessible connection. Through every layer of paint and repurposed cardboard, SideQuest invites you to pause, smile, and reflect on the pieces that make us who we are for better or for worse.
